Tesla has launched Robotaxi service, but it only works for employees

Tesla has launched its own taxi service, but you can only use it when Tesla works.

On Wednesday, the company announced on X that it launched the “FSD Overseas Ride Service” (meaning fully autonomous driving) which is “early employees of the Austin & San Francisco Bay Area.”

According to Tesla, the service has more than 1,500 trips and more than 15,000 miles traveled.

Mixable light speed

CEO Elon Musk told investors in January that this was just a test before the reality went online, which is said to be in June this year. “This service helps us develop and validate FSD networks, mobile applications, vehicle allocation, mission control and remote assistance operations,” the company wrote on X on Wednesday.

After years of Musk trailer, Tesla announced a robotics service (and an autonomous car called Cybercab) in October 2024. While Tesla said that Cybercab was not going to arrive in the market earlier than 2026, the company also said an unsupervised autonomous, autonomous Robotaxi Service should also arrive in 2025 in the California In California In California In California.

Now, this is partially correct, as the service is still under supervision. In the video announced above, you can see a human driver sitting in front seats and monitoring the car while riding. The notice issued at the bottom of the video says, “The driver is present and only needs to intervene if necessary. FSD (supervision) does not make the vehicle autonomous.”

It’s great to see Tesla progress on its Robotaxi vision, although it’s worth noting that other companies, including Alphabet’s Waymo and GM’s cruises, have been operating driverless, autonomous taxi services in parts of California, Arizona and Texas. Rebecca Ruiz of Mashable
