Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is doing anything the movie has done before

Christopher Nolan did it again. He was one of the first Hollywood filmmakers to unfold movie scenes on IMAX screens, and now he finally answers anyone who sees it The Dark Knight, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Agreement, Dunes: Part 2, Sinner, Oppenheimer, Or dozens of other movies in IMAX have also thought about it: “Why isn’t the whole movie like this?”
Well, because until now, this is impossible. The camera is too big, too big to shoot the entire Hollywood movie. It’s a privilege for select action sequences, concert movies or nature documentaries without dialogue. But for his new movie, OdysseyNolan asked the IMAX to make smaller, quieter cameras that were able to capture footage screened at a large-scale signature 1.43:1 aspect ratio, and the company did that. So, Nolan has been shooting Odyssey Using the IMAX film camera completely makes it the first Hollywood blockbuster ever to do so.
Chris called me and said if you can figure out how to fix the problem, we will do it [The Odyssey] 100% IMAX. That’s what we’re doing. ”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the camera was reportedly 30% static than previous iterations and was “significantly lighter”. Nolan now has all the cameras working in his films, but when it’s done, other filmmakers can use them as well.
Of course, it has to be Nolan. Nolan changed the game Dark Knight When he decided to shoot selected scenes by using an IMAX film camera, the lens was made larger and clearer than the rest of the film. In the years since Nolan himself and several other filmmakers, including Michael Bay, Brad Bird, Dennis Villeneuve and Ryan Coogler, their films have done something similar. You can watch movies on real IMAX screens, and although most of them are traditional aspect ratios, some scenes change the ratio and the entire screen is filled, basically from rectangles to huge squares.
This is different from most movies you’ve seen in IMAX lately. These were taken with smaller digital IMAX cameras that could capture images that might be larger than the standard aspect ratio, but are incomplete at 1:43:1. It’s an outdated, but still helpful, an interpreter released by Thorough Movie Oppenheimer Go to the theater. Nolan’s movie is shot entirely in the IMAX movie format in the upper left corner.
Coogler also recently released videos about the stock and aspect ratios he used to shoot movies sinner, It was shot partially with the IMAX film camera. This is also very helpful and you can check it out here.
So yes, other movies were previously shot entirely with IMAX movie cameras. But not Hollywood blockbusters.
What this means for listeners, if you don’t know yet, it’s time to do some research. Do you have an IMAX theater where you can show your movie in a 1:43:1 aspect ratio? If so, you’ll want to pay attention to premium tickets Odyssey Sales will start next summer. We’re sure it’ll be great, or as long as you see it. But, to see the whole thing 1:43:1 Imax will actually witness a new era in film history.
