“Fortnite” players are already making AI Darth Vader

On Friday, Epic Games announced Darth Vader will return Fortnite As the boss in the game – but this time, players will be able to chat with him through conversation AI. “Ask him all the pressing questions about the troops, the Galactic Empire…or, you know, this is a good phase of the last storm circle.”
Unfortunately, the player has other plans. Just a few hours after Vader appeared Fortnitegamers began to release clips of AI Vader Rogue.
“What weird fucking food is Darth Vader? Tell me,” the streaming clip was posted on X in a clip. “Freaky? Fuck? Fuck? Such a vulgar person won’t be you,” Vader replied. (Cat McCormack, spokesman for the epic game, told Wade that it pushed a hotspot “in the game within 30 minutes, so this shouldn’t happen again.”)
Later, in a conversation about possible romantic partners, Loserfruit prompted Vader to answer “You talk about breasts, loserfruit? I believe you mean an armored corset.”
In clips from other streaming media, Vader can be heard talking about carcinogens and then saying that the slander commonly used against queer men may also be S language. The ribbons can be heard screaming, “He said! He said!” before the Glee escaped.
AI made from Google Gemini 2.0 is programmed with Elevenlabs’ Flash v2.5 and sounds like the late James Earl Jones, who expresses his iconic character. In addition to Google’s security settings, Epic says it adds its own instructions to prevent interactions that are harmful or otherwise violate the rules of the gaming community. Players can report inappropriate comments to Darth Vader like any other voice chat.
Epic tells Wired that it adds specific rules and instructions to avoid oaths or repeated vows in part of its guardrail, as well as AI usage specific to parents in the game. McCormack refers to Vader’s use of F-bomb, saying: “Our filters do not cause specific changes. When this happens, we adjust to avoid future reactions.”
If the player continues to try to get Darth Vader to violate the Epic Games settings and instructions, he will leave their team. They won’t be able to recruit him again at that game conference. “These safety environments and restrictions have been rigorously tested through the combination of epic staff and external experts,” McCormack said.
“We will investigate the report and adjust it when needed to avoid future reactions,” McCormack said.
Fortnite It is a digital playground for millions of players, many of whom are young. It’s not surprising that people will immediately try to get Disney-owned Darth Vader to say something offensive. However, the speed at which players are able to do this indicates that the generated AI is still not fully ready to be released on the main gaming platform.
In some cases, a tour was held on Friday, and the sinister context of what Vader said might be too subtle to detect AI. Consider another clip where Vader sees Spanish as “a useful tongue for smugglers and spice traders. Its strategic value is small.” Or another, where the player prompts Vader to give a “layer list” of color in white, brown and yellow.
Lucasfilm did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Vader’s controversy is not the only brew Fortnite Friday. Epic announced earlier: “Apple has stopped us Fortnite Submit, so we cannot release EU iOS to the US App Store or Epic Games Store. ”
Epic and Apple have been wandering back and forth Fortnite. Apple usually charges commissions for in-app purchases; after EPIC updates its app to link to its website and avoids fees, Fortnite Removed from the App Store. Last week, Epic resubmitted the game to the U.S. App Store after a judge ruled that Apple could not charge commissions for items purchased outside the app. When Wired commented, an Apple spokesperson was controversial about EPIC’s characterization of the incident, but the game is still unavailable to use iPhone and other iOS users.
On Friday, epic news came out of its new Vader boss and conveyed the message that “it will be a day I remember for a long time.” But maybe not because of its idea.
