BTCFI & L2S’s Bitcoin 2025 Expectations

The annual Bitcoin conference in Las Vegas is a key event in the Bitcoin ecosystem, where the company launches groundbreaking, announcing partnerships and delivering speeches to shape the narrative of digital assets. For many, huge information can be overwhelming. After I attended several meetings at UTXO and became familiar with the companies I attended, I highlighted the critical panels and expected 2025 development projects with a focus on the Layer 2 (L2) and BTCFI ecosystem of Bitcoin.

This is Expected announcements and panel segments, classified by key topics:
BITVM2 Announcement
Since BITVM launched in 2023, the top Bitcoin development team has been working tirelessly to transform the concentrated Sidechain design into a true Bitcoin aggregation and permissionless L2S. At the 2025 conference, it is expected that these teams will unveil the first versions of the BitVM2 bridge, thus providing key details about its mechanism. Once real-time, the BITVM2 bridge unlocks a variety of decentralized BTC use cases that are accessible to all Bitcoin holders. May 2025 may mark a turning point, possibly marking a decline in centralized “crypto” and is determined to support the Bitcoin local economy. As the saying goes, on a long enough timeline, everything is back to Bitcoin.
L2 Partnership
Bitcoin L2S faces a huge challenge: competing with established cryptocurrency players while earning Bitcoin’s trust. The conference may feature major partnership announcements, especially at the infrastructure level, which involves long-term barriers to BTCFI adoption. These collaborations can enhance the credibility and functionality of L2 solutions, paving the way for wider acceptance.
Lightning and taproot asset innovation
The recent announcement that Tether (USDT) will issue a stable stake in lightning rails through Taproot Assets has caused great excitement. Companies in this field are expected to make major updates, especially regarding Taproot Assets and Stablecoin integration. Lightning Network is ready, and 2025 may be the year it broke into the mainstream.
Discussion on code opening and governance
With support for Bitcoin’s covenant activation and the latest debate on Mumbai policy on social media, governance discussions will be a focus. These panels are expected to be intellectually stimulating, providing people with insight into the core mechanisms of Bitcoin and potential fireworks after the debate. For those seeking to understand the future of Bitcoin, attending these meetings may be the most meaningful experience of the week.
Essential panels
Here is a curated list of panels that are consistent with the above categories, and what I would expect from each category. (Note: These predictions reflect my personal opinion and are not definite. This list is not exhaustive, but highlights high signal meetings for attendees with limited time.)
