The real threat to democracy is not the tank on the streets – it’s better on toddlers on tiktok, presidents on X and algorithms than you know.
After 14 years of the frontline of index changes, one thing is clear: we don’t have a wave of surfing technology, and we are being dragged away by the industry. With the convergence of artificial intelligence, quantum computing and synthetic media, they not only destroy jobs or markets, but also rewire the core functions of society: truth, trust, and thought. And most people don’t even realize it’s happening.

Big Tech’s incentives do not match democratic values. Platform rewards anger. Adjustment lag. When Elon Musk is in charge of government departments overseeing policies that benefit their own companies, it is not “destruction” – it’s soft authoritarianism in hoodies.
Three flash points require urgent attention:
- Education must go beyond “how to use AI” and teach why it is important from the beginning of young children.
- Verification systems are essential to distinguish between humans and robots from truth and hallucinations.
- Regulations must evolve from national debate to fda-for-for-tech technology in global law enforcement, not medicine.
Humanoid robots are used to spread false information, not because of malicious intentions, but because they are intended to participate, not to tell the truth. Or Meta’s algorithm, optimization can be used as dopamine fuel instead of discourse. We have witnessed the integrated manipulation of public opinion on planetary scale. Democratic architectures cannot afford systems designed for clarity clicks.
Meanwhile, billionaires are upgrading from a technology platform to a political platform, shaping elections, policies and digital norms. The 2024 US election is a masterclass of consolidation of technological and political power. Doge (in fact, the Ministry of Government Efficiency) is covering up regulators designed to protect the public interest. When an algorithm is written, who reviews the algorithm?
This is not fear. This is pattern recognition.
But there is hope – if we act systematically. The future requires a three-pronged transformation:
1. Education with a focus on futures, establish ethics and digital fluent.
2. A dynamic verification framework that maintains identity and trust.
3. Agile global governance has adjusted the exponential nature of changes.
The integration of risks is also the integration of responsibility. A better system starts with a better problem. Have we built a world worthy of the tools we create?
