Cyber Security

Don’t give them what they really want

Although these hackers often operate under some form of government, not just the digital equivalent of “recover wetlands,” I still think it makes sense to use DDOS attacks as part of activists rather than hybrid warfare. Although absolutely possible.

Because if there isn’t too much performance, the DDOS attack does not cause much damage. Of course, it’s not great to last a Swish or Bank-ID for a few hours, but it’s not a threat to society either. What bothers me is that there will always be some critics who continue to carry out poor resilience, “our vulnerable digital society” and the risk of relying so much on some services. These things are important to talk about, but bringing them up in the context of these attacks is what hackers want.

Even if the victim does a good job of protecting himself, this puts the focus and responsibility on the victim. These services are being backed up and running. As climate activists glue themselves to the lane or airport, few blame the Swedish Transport Authority when the same group of activists prevented the plane from taking off from Marlowa. But in the eyes of some people, it seems that people who provide digital services need to spend their entire IT budget with Cloudflare to avoid criticism.
