How to verify yourself on the Blues

Want to verify in Bluesky and add a sweet, sweet check mark to your account? OK, you might have to wait for this, but there is a workaround until the application is opened.

In April 2025, social media platforms added a way to verify real accounts and prove it with blue tick titers. This is a feature of Twitter before Elon Musk appears and makes the blue check available for purchase.

So, can you get verified on the blues? Well, we have some bad news – this may not have happened yet. According to an article on Bluesky’s blog, “At this initial stage, Bluesman does not accept direct verification applications. As this feature stabilizes, we will launch a request form for a famous and real account interested in being verified or becoming a trusted validator.”

Brusky did say the company “will proactively verify authentic and well-known accounts and display a blue check next to its name”, so that the section is currently in the hands of the user.

But, there is some good news. If you have your own domain name (which is your own website), you can try “self-verification” on the blues. Bluesky launched this feature in 2023. So if you have your own website, try these steps.

Step 3: Add DNS records to your domain.

Bluesky will generate DNS (Domain Name System) records for you that you need to copy and add to your own domain. These steps may change depending on the platform you are using. If using Squarespace (I want to do it), go to the Dashboard there, click Domain and select the domain you want to use. On the left menu of Squarespace, click DNS and scroll down to the Add Record box on the right. Copy and paste the information that the blues generates for you and click Save.

Step 4: Go back to the blues and click “Verify DNS Records”.

If everything is fine, you will receive a Domain Verification message on the screen.

Step 5: Click the button that reads “Update to”.

If everything works fine, you should see a successful message saying your handle has been updated. “DNS breeding may take some time,” Brusky said on the blog, so be patient and wait for your new website handle to not appear immediately.

None of this means you can guarantee a blue check of the Blues, as the company itself is responsible for “verification”[ing] Real and famous account.

If you want a more detailed guide on all of the above, the Bluesman will have a higher technical breakdown.

The Blues also enable certain organizations to act as “trusted validators” to issue blue checks directly to their employees.

“For example, New York Times Blue checks can now be sent directly to their reporters in the app. “The Blues’ temperance team reviewed every verification to ensure authenticity,” the Blues’ blog post reads.

Accounts that allow this can be identified by a fan-shaped blue check, and when you click on the blue check for verifying your account, you will be able to see who approved it.

If you’re verified in either case (Lucky Duck) and you don’t want a blue check to appear, you can turn it off at any time. Just go to Settings, click on Mederation and then verify the settings, where you can switch.
