Metaplanet buys additional Bitcoin worth 7.6 billion yen, Bitcoin price rises over $97,000

Japanese company Metaplanet has acquired 555 bitcoins worth approximately 7.6 billion yen ($53.5 million), and as the price continues to over $97,000, its total holdings reach 5,555 BTC. After the purchase, Metaplanet announced plans to issue zero 3.6 billion yen ($25 million) zero equity bonds to the EVO Fund for further Bitcoin acquisitions.

The company now owns the largest Bitcoin treasury among Asian listed companies, with a total stake worth approximately $537 million.

The aggressive accumulation strategy reflects the strategy’s recently announced plans to raise $84 billion in Bitcoin purchases. The strategy currently holds 555,450 BTC, although BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has surpassed the strategy, which now controls over 620,000 BTC worth $58.5 billion.

Metaplanet’s stock responded positively to the announcement, bringing 11.45% of its stock revenue to 477 yen on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The company said the purchases will have the least impact on its consolidated financial performance for fiscal 2025.

Bitcoin’s reaction to the U.S.-China tariff news climbed to above $97,000, trading at press time of $97,018, up 3.38% over the past 24 hours. The price increase comes amid strong institutional demand, with BlackRock’s IBIT recording 5,613 BTC ($529.5 million) on Monday alone.

The latest purchases and bond issuance of the Japanese company highlights the trend of corporate Bitcoin adoption as companies increasingly view Bitcoin as strategic fiscal assets.
