Metaplanet buys an additional 1.92 billion yen worth of Bitcoin

Metaplanet Inc. acquired 145 bitcoins for approximately 1.926 billion yen ($13.6 million), reaching a big milestone of 5,000 BTC. The Tokyo Exchange-listed company performed its purchases at an average of 13,280,472 ($93,327) per bitcoin.

Metaplanet’s Bitcoin Treasury acquired for $428.1 million, with an average acquisition cost of $85,621 per coin. “This is an important step for us to become one of the world’s leading Bitcoin holding companies,” Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich said in a statement. “We will lead the global Bitcoin competition from Japan.”

The company’s aggressive accumulation strategy is built with a zero-finish strike order after a successful capital raising in mid-2024. The funding is called the “largest ever in Asia” fundraising with Bitcoin-focused capital.

Metaplanet’s proprietary BTC production metric, which measures growth per share to reach 121.1% YTD. The company aims to accumulate 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by 2026.

The company’s Bitcoin strategy reflects a U.S.-based strategy, where both companies use Bitcoin as a Treasury Bills asset. Metaplanet is now ranked among the top 10 of the world’s publicly listed Bitcoin holders.

The acquisition was due to Bitcoin transactions of approximately $92,800, while institutional interest continued to grow through various investment vehicles, including ETFs and the company’s fiscal component.
