My first Bitcoin received $1 million in BTC education grant

In the positive development of open source education, the nonprofit My First Bitcoin (MFB) has received a major donation from #starsmall to promote independent Bitcoin (BTC) education worldwide.
$1 million for Bitcoin education
My first Bitcoin announced Tuesday that it has received a $1 million grant from Jack Dorsey’s grant program #startsmall, allowing nonprofits in Central America to continue serving the “Grassroots Bitcoin Education Program.”
MFB, also known as MI Primer Bitcoin, was founded in El Salvador in 2021. The organization focuses on global BTC education, including various programs and their non-attendance meetings for Bitcoin educators to bring enthusiasts and industry figures together.
According to the announcement, the grant will accelerate MFB’s efforts to create and distribute “free and open source Bitcoin educational materials and infrastructure” to help improve existing resources, including Bitcoin diplomas, BTC introductory courses, and teacher training workshops.
Additionally, it will reportedly help organizations expand their digital platforms, such as its online schools and community centers.
In early 2022, nonprofits launched their BTC diploma program to promote education on different topics such as Fiat Money, the history of BTC, and the challenges of multiple aspects of flagship cryptocurrencies.
The program has been successful, with thousands of students in El Salvador over the past four years. The 2023 workbook has also been translated into 23 languages and has been taught from independent South American professors to Asia.
The MFB also worked with the El Salvador Ministry of Education to promote adoption and financial mandate in the country, aiming to introduce the BTC diploma course to the country’s public education system in 2024.
It is worth noting that it also launched an independent Bitcoin educator node network in 2023, aiming to provide people with space to join MFB tasks. The network spans over 65 more than 65 projects from 35 countries and is now autonomous but has received support from nonprofits.
Promote transparent BTC education
In their educational declaration, the MFB confirmed that the Fiat world’s education system “has been corrupted and abused” and that the incentive structure has been broken. Instead, the organization outlines that the funding for BTC education must be transparent, independent, impartial, community-led and decentralized.
Therefore, MFB considered #Starsmall’s “great victory” in awarding BTC and independent BTC education, as it will allow them to “serve the global community better than ever”. The organization also promises to continue serving the community while “working for the public in public.”
John Dennehy, founder and executive director of MFB, asserted: “The revolution in bitcoin education is to teach students how to think, not what to think.”
“The subtle influence of funding undermines Fiat education and we need to create alternative models for the revolution in Bitcoin education to realize its full potential,” Dennehy stressed.
Meanwhile, the MFB communications director at Arnold Hubach said: “Open source funds should be open source education. Over the past few years, we have seen a growing demand for global resources and we remain committed to serving everyone in the Bitcoin space that needs to be supported.”
He concluded that the funding would allow MFB to “further plan for the future and continue to be a provider of the first phase of free educational tools”.
