Real-time updates of Apple WWDC 2025๐ด
On Monday, June 9, Apple will announce software updates for all its platforms at its annual WWDC 2025 Developer Conference. We will see new versions of iOS, iPados, MacOS, WatchOS, Visionos and TVO, with all of them jumping directly to version โ26โ.
Apple is expected to introduce a brand new visual look inspired by Vision Proโs glass and translucent Visionos to unify interfaces and make them more consistent across devices. For its largest and most important platform (IPHONE), it means itโs the first major software makeover since Jony Iveโs iOS 7 flat software in 2013.
The elephant in the room will be AI, especially Appleโs artificial intelligence brand, called Apple Intelligence. Will Apple solve the big obstacle to its next-generation Siri voice assistant, which was supposed to arrive but still not? Or to dilute its lagged AI capabilities to Google, OpenAI, Anthropic and other major AI companies, discarding new, more advanced LLM powered chatbots and generation features at seemingly fast pace?
Senior consumer technology editor Raymond Wong will bring Live WWDC 2025 coverage in Cupertino, California, from Appleโs spacecraft-shaped Apple Park coverage. The Gizmodo consumer technology team, including senior writer James and journalist Kyle Barr, will also break the news announcement. Be sure to come back on Monday for real-time updates!
iOS leap year
Meanwhile, one of the biggest but most superficial changes to WWDC 2025 may be Appleโs naming convention. As Bloombergโs Mark Gurman reported, all Appleโs software (i.e. iOS, macos, iPados, watchos and visionos) may jump from their respective numbers from 18, 16, 18, 11 and 2 toโฆ26, respectively. This shift will change the year-round system from year-round release to year-round release, plus a copy like toyota or anything else.
In a sense, this doesnโt really mean anything, but in another way it means a big change and may actually match the new version of iOS we expect. I guess this will make things easier, but poor Visionos may have some whipping.
Hey Siri, are you still sucking?
Apple announced Apple intelligence at WWDC last year. Genmoji, features of generative AI like notification summary and writing tools have been launched, but the large Siri has on-screen awareness and proxy capabilities to help you do things on your behalf, even after months of delays. The report said the new Siri feature was fictional, and Appleโs marketing pushed the Siri team to even make them work before showing them.
Our senior writer James Pero believes Monday will be seen as Appleโs manufacturing or destroying AI, which is largely about optics. Will Apple become an innovator or a lagout?
