Steak’N Shake will accept Bitcoin payments in all U.S. locations starting next week

Steak’N Shake will accept payments for Bitcoin as all locations in the U.S. starting May 16, one of the largest fast food Bitcoin integrations to date, the company announced Thursday.

The news comes after a wave of mysterious posts earlier this year, which included a question: “Should Steak’N Shake accept Bitcoin?” and the viral image of Bitcoin-branded spacecraft, speculations among online speculation between Bitcoin. Now, it has confirmed: Steak’shake is more than just a parody – it is committed to adopting Bitcoin.

This promotion will bring Bitcoin payments to more than 500 restaurants nationwide, bringing BTC into the real world for high-frequency, low-cost food purchases, a key milestone in cryptocurrencies. Unlike previous food industry pilots who were limited to testing the market, Steak N shakes went all out from day one.

Fast food brands have been building expectations since March, gradually layering Bitcoin images in their marketing, fueling conversations between social media and being supported by well-known Bitcoin advocates, including Jack Dorsey, who responded to the original “Should Steak N Shake accept Bitcoin?” Tweeting is simple: “Yes.”

It is unclear how fast food chains will implement massive acceptance of Bitcoin payments, or whether they will also implement Bitcoin Lightning Network for their customers. Apart from that, it’s unclear whether Steak’N Shake will convert any profitable BTC into cash or whether they will earn.

The move is also the days since Bitcoin Pizza Day on May 22, marking the historic deal in 2010, when Laszlo Hanyecz famously paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas.

Other brands like Chipotle, Subway, and Burger King have dabbled in cryptocurrencies over the years, but Steak’N Shake’s full-scale, No-Pilot launch is one of the boldest games in fast-food films flirting with Bitcoin.

As “Steaktoshi” says:

“The movement has just begun.”
