The U.S. Copyright Office has registered more than 1,000 works.

The U.S. Copyright Office is in a survey of results on copyright law and artificial intelligence, and in a recent interview, an attorney for the office said it had registered its work in AI-enhanced work.
In April’s article Wipo Magazine,,,,, “The office has registered more than a thousand works, and applicants follow our guidance to disclose and deny generated materials,” said Assistant General Counsel Jalyce Mangum. Crucially, Mangum said the office believes that “is AI enhancing human expression or the source of expression choice.”
A spokesman for the U.S. Copyright Office told Mashable that a January 2025 report from the office said hundreds of AI-enhanced works had been registered. Now, we know that over 1,000 such works have been registered.

Many artists have taken a tough attitude towards artificial intelligence, protesting their any Creative effort. Mashable reports strong opposition to using AI in movies Barbarians and Late night with the devila resurrection project that recently used Agatha Christie’s similarities, to restore The Wizard of Oz For the field, as well as the controversial Ghibli image trends using Chatgpt.
Previously, the office determined that AI-generated materials were eligible for copyright protection only if they were included in works that were primarily made by humans. As Mashable reports, this means that images generated by such equipment as Dall-E, Chatgpt, or Midjourney cannot be copyrighted, no matter how much work is done. A representative told us that the U.S. Copyright Office’s complete guide to AI aided materials is available.
The guide is included in the second part of the Office of Copyright and Artificial Intelligence. (Part 3, scheduled to be released later this year, will have a big impact on training on AI models. Wipo article.
However, currently only “enhanced” materials are eligible for copyright registration. Part 2 of the report also mentions specific use cases such as “removing crowds from photos, video stabilization tools and ray tracing”.
