Trump aims at Biden’s cyber executive order, but is largely untouched

Although Trump’s order eliminates Biden’s EO, a key component of the digital identity part, and revokes the proof that EO needs for security software development, it otherwise retains the central provisions of the orders for January. Furthermore, unlike the anomalies and partisan profiles, EO itself is a simple policy document without political sniping.

“I’m glad to see a lot of consistency between the last administration’s order and what they are doing,” Caitlin Clarke, former senior cyber chief of the National Security Council, now senior director of cybersecurity services at Venable LLP, told CSO. “In most cases, because cybersecurity is critical to federal and critical infrastructure networks, this is quite consistent, while driving some of the key actions that help protect federal and critical infrastructure networks.”

Revoke Biden EO’s Digital Identity Development Section

Utilizing digital identities has become an increasingly popular way to threaten participants to gain unauthorized access to other highly protected networks and assets. Cybercriminals and nation-states can often penetrate undiscovered systems by posing or stealing legitimate certificates.
